Meeple Jockey Gaming Club
Hello, Warren here. Welcome to the Meeple Jockey Gaming Club. I started this club for a few reasons but mainly I’m a vet with too much time on his hands who likes to play games with friends and family. Given that, I decided to start this club as a way of connecting with the gaming community in Hamilton and the wider area and play more games!
If you like to play games, live in the Hamilton area and have an interest, then I hope you’ll reach out and give our club a try.
General Info
This is an open and welcoming environment for adults to get together, play some board games and make new friends. Members are encouraged to bring a friend! Hate, politics, religion and the like have no place here. Keep it light and fun folks.
I like to bake so snacks will always be provided. Feel free to bring your favourites but please let me know in advance so I don’t accidentally double up on them!
Non-alcoholic beverages are provided. It’s a dry house but you can BYOB and we are cannabis friendly. It’s still a Tuesday night so consumption is expected to be casual and limited.
We have two cats. Just sayin.
Street parking only. Public transit is encouraged and very close by.
This is a private residence, if you are a dick you will be asked to leave.
Attendance & Communication
We use a WhatsApp group to manage Tuesday night attendance. A poll asking for attendance (yes, no, maybe) is posted Sunday nights. So as not to badger members, one reminder message is sent out on Tuesday morning.. and perhaps of photo of some baking in the afternoon.
There is no expectation or need to explain anytime a member won’t be out that week, just vote saying that you aren’t attending. Maybes are great and help to gauge numbers.
Group appropriate chat is fine in the group chat but we aren’t trying to blow up anyone’s phone with to much. Other chat groups can be spun off for specific needs and any other communications can be emailed to Warren directly.
Gaming
The Meeple Jockey Gaming Club is a group of Hamilton area gamers that is mainly focused on board and card based games. There definitely is interest in our group for hosting or joining groups for TTRPG’s or Legacy Board Games but for the most part it’s about the cardboard pursuits. For more info on the other types check out those links.
The games we play during our regular Tuesday game nights can take many forms. In the library there are older giants of gaming like Catan or Ticket to Ride alongside more modern releases like Quacks of Quedlinburg, Origin Story, Hot Streak, or Unmatched TMNT to highlight a few. There are lots of games ranging in size, complexity, player count and theme. Members are of course encouraged to bring their own games for open game nights or as part of a nights planned theme.
The club runs several types of game nights over the course of any given month. Each night has it’s own theme that will guide how the games are chosen. That said, if a theme night is a bust due to member attendance that evening, we will of course adapt. Some examples of these nights are;
- IP Themed
- Star Trek/Wars, Super Heroes, Lord of the Rings etc.
- Genre Inspired
- Action Movies, Mystery Night, European Country Side etc.
- Game Mechanic Inspired
- Engine/Tableau Builders, Puzzle/Pattern Matching, Head Scratching Strategy, Push Your Luck! etc.
- Game Style/Component Inspired
- Dice Chuckin’, Card Driven, Tile Laying etc.
- Trick Taking, Dexterity etc.
- Other Nights
- Mini-tournaments of specific games
- 1v1/2v2 Round Robins
- Open Gaming (Bring any games, play any games)
Please see our Events page to see what’s coming up.
